FAQs

  • We're based permanently on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) at Dunwich. We service all areas of the island including Dunwich, Amity Point, and Point Lookout. Because we're already on the island, you won't pay mainland call-out fees or wait on barge schedules.

  • We operate a Terex Franna MRC 20 — a 20-tonne capacity pick-and-carry mobile crane. The Franna is purpose-built for tight access, off-road conditions, and versatile site work, making it ideal for Straddie's varied terrain and remote locations.

  • Our Terex Franna MRC 20 has a maximum rated capacity of 20 tonnes. Actual safe working load depends on the radius of the lift, boom angle, and rigging configuration. We'll assess your specific load and provide a load chart review as part of our quote.

  • Under Queensland WHS legislation, a licensed dogman or rigger is required to direct crane operations and attach loads in many circumstances. We can advise you on what's required for your specific job. If you don't have one organised, we can help you source a suitably licensed tradesperso

  • Simply call us on 0409 538 079 or email info@thesaleyards.com.au. Give us a brief description of what you need lifted, where on the island, and when — and we'll get back to you with a written quote promptly.

  • We recommend booking as early as possible, particularly during busy construction periods. For straightforward jobs we can often accommodate short-notice bookings. Call us and we'll do our best to fit you in.

  • Crane operations are subject to wind speed limits and safe operating conditions under Australian Standards (AS 2550). If weather on the day is unsafe, we will postpone the job and reschedule at no additional cost to you. We monitor forecasts closely and will contact you in advance if conditions are a concern.

  • Yes. A SWMS is prepared for every job and provided to the principal contractor or client prior to work commencing. We also carry out a site-specific pre-lift assessment on the day.

  • Yes. Our operator holds all current Queensland licences required to operate a 20-tonne mobile crane. We carry comprehensive public liability insurance. Certificates of currency are available on request.

  • The Franna is a capable off-road machine, but all lifts require a safe and stable working surface. We assess ground conditions as part of our pre-lift planning. For soft or uneven ground, crane mats or ground protection may be required — we'll advise you on this during the quoting process.

  • Obtaining site permits, council approvals, or road occupancy licences is generally the client's responsibility. We're happy to advise on what may be required and provide any documentation needed to support your application (e.g. crane specifications, lift plans).

  • Cancellations with more than 48 hours notice incur no charge. Between 24–48 hours notice, 25% of the quoted amount applies. Less than 24 hours notice, 50% applies. Same-day or on-site cancellations are charged at 100% of the minimum hire charge. See our full Terms & Conditions for details.
